Systematic extermination of Jews in the killing centers was first accomplished by using exhaust gasses from trucks and later by an insecticide called Zyklon B. Personal property of murdered Jews was collected and utilized in various ways. Watches were distributed to the German Army, jewelry was transferred to state-owned pawn shops for sale on international and domestic markets, clothing was distributed among various segments of the population, hair of the murdered was used in stuffing mattresses and dental gold was melted down into gold bars. Documentation in this volume includes descriptions of the methods of killing, as told by extermination camp commanders and others, as well as records of the distribution of the loot taken from the murdered. Contains 19 documents of source materials, carefully chosen from the thousands preserved at the U.S. National Archives. A detailed table of contents lists and provides the source for each document.
