London: F. G. Moon. Very Good with no dust jacket. 1849. First Edition. Hardcover. This three volume set is in very good condition, bound in maroon half calf with maroon pebbled buckram boards, edges a little rubbed, text block very good clean and tight. With folio sized 121 plates, numerous half plate lithographs, 120 text illustrations, all tinted lithographs by Louis Haghe after David Roberts, with a folio sized lithograph of David Roberts in Vol I. The tomes measure 24.5" x 18" (62.5cm x 45.7cm) and weigh around 10lbs each. Two bookplates, 1) Bookplate of John Madden (1836-1902) , husband of Lady Caroline Clements an father of Caroline, Marchioness of Alesbury. 2) Arthur Beresford Cane (1864-1939, Barrister. These tomes are legendary in stature and these are the third set that I have had in hand the past few decades as a book dealer. They are offered online for up to $123,000; 24.5" x 18" .
