About This Item
London: Burns & Oates. Good in Good dust jacket. 1964. First Edition Thus. Hardcover. Xxvi, 497 pp. Index. Small octavo. Pale blue paper dust jacket with floral border is faded with some small marks, spine darkened, price flap cut. Book itself has owner name on end paper and title page, otherwise clean and unmarked. Nice copy. Fr. Augustine Baker, a convert, originally wrote these treatises while still a chaplain with no thought of publication. They were first published in 1641. Edited now to prune away some 19th century accretions by Gerard Sitwell, the book is designed "for the many who are trying to lead a serious spiritual life who in their measure feel a desire for God, and who realize that this imposes on them the necessity for the regular practice of internal prayer..." ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 497 pages .
