About This Item
Guildford, Surrey: Genesis Publications Limited, 1980. First Edition. Leather. Very Good. First Limited Edition. Large 8vo. Number 410 of only 2,000 copies, signed by Harrison on the limitation page, and also inscribed by his sister: "To Gary, Love & Laughter, Lou Harrison, 9.10.94." Handsomely bound in half black calf and black cloth, embellished with a brown leather inlay and gilt guitar motif to the upper cover and gilt facsimile signature to lower cover, five raised bands, gilt-stamped spine, brown leather spine label, all edges gilt, ribbon bookmark, 4 separate music scores as endpapers, 2 tipped-in sepia toned childhood portraits with tissue guards as frontispiece and endpiece, 17 text engravings, 48 photo plates + large 4 panel fold-out plate, 120 colour facsimile pages containing 83 of George's song lyrics. "Printed in 28 special colours by Kingprint of Richmond, sadly no longer in business. George visited Kingprint to view the first sheets coming off the press." - from publisher's website. The culmination of several year's work, this was the book that changed the direction of the press to become the leading fine binding press to produce "rock 'n' roll" books. Light scratches to the edge gilt, and some light scuffing and faint impressions in the leather around the spine, and board corners, otherwise a nice, clean and tight copy housed in a black cloth slipcase with a plain dust jacket and inserted in the slipcase (not sure if the wrapper was intrinsic to the book or added later, however it has kept the book in excellent condition). Light scuffing to slipcase corners and the paper label unevenly sunned.
