About This Item

Boston: Marshall Jones Company, 1919. First edition. Hardback. Near Fine/Very Good Indeed. 9.5" by 7.5". Susan Hale. A wonderful first edition of this reproduction of Susan Hale"s original 1865 work. Containing delightful illustrations from Hale throughout. A very smart edition of Susan Hale"s "Inkings for Thinklings". Hale originally created and bound "Inklings for Thinklings" herself  for a benefit fundraiser for the Sanitation Commission in Boston in 1865. The one of a kind book was then sold off to the father of Caroline P. Atkinson. Ms Atkinson arranged for a facsimile reproduction of the original work to be published as this edition in 1919. Susasn Hale (1833 – 1910) was an American author, traveller, and artist. She travelled extensively, sketching and visiting the galleries of the world. Containing numerous delightful illustrations from Hale. In the original decorative binding, with original, unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, very smart. Some light markings to the boards of the dust wrapper and some light edgewear to the extremities. Some very light markings to pastedowns and recto of endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Near Fine
