Mr. Sayer & others in presenting that matter to your attention; I am calling Mr. Field’s attention to an instrument for Deep Sea Sounding, without a line; its use will save time & money in ascertaining the bottom of the Pacific Ocean for laying his Cable from San Francisco to China.
