1599 Works of Josephus Jewish Antiquities Judaica +1610 Sleidanus on Reformation
Pairing of two rare works of theological commentary from the turn of the 16th-century – Josephus and Sleidanus – in one impressive volume.
Johannes Sleidanus was a 16th-century historian who is best remembered for his commentary and analysis of the Protestant Reformation. He collected as all papers and manuscripts concerning the Reformation to which he had access (particularly those of Martin Luther) and edited them as part of his 'Commentary on State, Religion, and Republic'. It is still considered to be a reliable and valuable history of the Reformation and contains a substantial collection of first-hand accounts and documents from the Reformation.
Flavius Josephus's most important and famous work was his historical account of the Jewish people, 'Antiquities of the Jews.' This work is one of the most referenced works regarding the history and origins of the Jewish faith, providing history beyond what is found in the Bible.
This 1599 first Frankfurt edition is a supremely rare edition of Josephus.
