About This Item
Philadelphia, PA: The Jewish Publication Society of America, 1979. First edition. First edition [stated]. Presumed first printing. Hardcover. Very good in good dust jacket. DJ has wome wear, soiling, and edge tears/chips.. xiii, [1], 348 p. Illustrations. Tables. Sources. Notes. Bibliography. Index. This work is the first full-scale study in English of what was then the fifth largest Jewish community in the world. It is a compelling account of a community pursuing its destine in a land that had displayed both hospitality and hatred toward Jews.
