Collection of 150 plates + additional drawings, many published here for the first time, representing the life's work of drawings by Kaethe Kollwitz (1867-1945), "considered by many to be the greatest woman artist the world has ever known." Text by art historian H. Bitnner, explores' the artist's deep connection to & compassion for "the oppressed & humiliated & downtrodden peoples of the world." Foreword, Biography, Notes, Bibliography comprise ix + 37 pages, followed by 147 plates. Orig. published in 1959, this is the Second Printing from Aug. 1962. Hardcover 4to (8.5" x 11.25") has bright blue cloth over boards lettered in white to front & spine. Condition is VG: clean & bright, binding strong & straight, pages creamy white with mild tanning to edges. NO writing/underlining/highlighting; not ex-lib. Flaws: heavy rubbing with fraying to both ends of spine & all corners. The unclipped DJ is only Fair, with heavy rubbing to extremities & many small chips, some tiny holes, staining; nicely protected in new clear mylar cover.
