Reviews
On Aug 25 2014, a reader said:
If the title of the book didn't give you enough of a clue, I'll tell you that this humorous novel was set in Ireland. But the slant is definitely Anglo-Irish, as was the author, a transplanted Englishman writing his fourth novel in Ireland. Only the English could find something to laugh about in 1848 at the height of the Great Famine. The story--really two stories--tells of the trials and tribulations of two romances: one that of a high and mighty lord and the other and of a hard-working but honest native Irishman. While all of the gents in this novel are principled but flawed, it is the two courted women who personify goodness from the beginning of the novel to its happy ending. It was pleasant summer reading to see virtue rewarded and bad guys vanquished.
