London: Heron Books, 1979. No dustwrapper (as issued). Heron Collectors edition in dark red 'Kidron' imitation leather with gilt decoration on front board and on spine. Some slight bumping to corners and some yellowing to the pages, but otherwise a good clean tight copy of this hard-cover book. Originaly published in Germany (in Russian as "Korol', Dama, Valet) in 1928, and translated into English by the author's son Dmitri in 1967, this is a later, undated Heron edition, probably from around 1979. 272pp.. Hard Cover. Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
Synopsis
Originally written in 1928, it was translated from Russian to English by Nabokov's son in 1968. The novel is the story of well-to-do Dreyer, who has a lovely but terriby cold wife, named Martha. Bored, manipulative Martha plots to make a lover of Dreyer's nephew, Franz, when he comes to work for Dreyer in Berlin.
