Crisp, clean pages except for prior owners' names on the front free endpaper, a gift note penned on the half-title page, and some age-toning to endpapers; the gilt head edging shows a few scuffs; the full brown cloth hard cover has lines of light surface wear along spine sides, darkening along the spine and a few small, brown droplet marks at lower spine, a few loose threads at the shallowly frayed spine ends, and surface wear to the free corners and heel edges, but remains strikingly attractive, with gilt titles and decoration at front and spine. xii, 290pp., color frontis + b/w illus. throughout.
