New York: Dodd, Mead & Co., 1909 Bound in green cloth with color pictorial paper pastedown, cover soil, wear to extremities and pastedown, inner hinges shaky, foxing to prelims, a few pages dog-eared, one plate marred by a small bit of paper from opposing page. Humorous verse by Kilvert, a sampling here: "Wally Wimple went a-kiting/ In the simple sport delighting/ Kite as big again as Walter/ Never once did Walter falter/ Till a sudden gust of weather/ Lifted Wally off the heather/ Though to keep his feet a-fighting/ Wally Wimple went a-kiting." Every 2 stanzas are pictured in full color on opposing pages with whimsical drawings from water colors. 18 color plates, plus color title page and color copyright page, all text and illustrations printed on heavy stock.
