Japanese illustrator noted for producing books for children based on Japanese folk tales. He shared a belief with several artist friends that paintings for children should also be art. Their art is part of the Showa Era (1926-89)
Kurosaki Yoshisuke was born in Nagasaki Prefecture. In 1925, he entered the Kawabata Art School, and began studying art full time. He won his first award in the Chuo Art Exhibition in 1927. He joined the New Nippon Doga Group, an organization to promote innovation of children's paintings in 1934. He released works for several magazines, including Kodomo‐no‐Kuni and Kinder Book. In 1961, he participated in establishing the second Japan Doga Artist Association with Takei Takeo and other painters. His masterpieces include Momotaro [The Peach Boy] and Shita‐kiri Suzume [The Tongue‐cut Sparrow], which are based on Japanese folk stories.
"In Japan, there are many fancy and interesting tales for children from ancient-time. My works are based on these tales which are very popular in Japan. The drawing technique is traditional Japanese style." Kurosaki Yoshisuke
