Quarto. 40, 20, 40pp. introductory text. 11 color plates, 1293 b/w photographs with unpaginated, numbered descriptive list of objects presented. Original photo-illustrated wraps with white lettering on spine. Standard work on the most significant artistic region Oceania's, the Sepik river region. First discovered in 1885 by ethnologist Otto Finsch the region was explored with ethnographic objectives only after WWI. This publication is an exhaustive record of the cultures of this New Guinea region. Text in German. Moderate shelf wear with creased spines of vols. I and III. Photographic plates with minor age-toning. Folded map missing in volume 1. Wraps in good, interior in good+ to very good condition.
