The twelfth ("L" is for Lawless) and sixteenth ("P" is for Peril) novels of Sue Grafton's "Alphabet" series of mystery novels, featuring Kinsey Millhone, a private investigator based in Santa Teresa (a fictionalized version of Santa Barbara in California). This popular murder mystery series is written in a characteristic hard-boiled detective fiction style. In "L" is for Lawless, Kinsey is hired to investigate the life and death of her late neighbour.
