First person account of travels from Germany, through Poland (at that time under Russian control) and into Russia proper.Ganz writes:"For the Pole, Germanization is an ill-fitting garment that only binds; Russianization is a thorn in the flesh, producing pus and throwing the entire system into a fever." One of the stops Ganz made was to visit Leo Tolstoi. Ganz was a German-Jewish political and literary writer and journalist for the German newspaper "Frankfurter Zeiting" and Swiss "Neue Zurcher Zeitung." 092508A
