The personal narratives of others include the voice of an actress whose father committed suicide rather than submit to the Party's dictates; a journalist incapacited with fear; an aged scholar who was tortured and imprisoned for years --- all bearing witness to out of extraordinary sufferings during the hysteria of the Cultural Revolution (1966 - 1969).
