About This Item
A GENUINE HARDCOVER IN STUNNING CONDITION, AND IT'S NOW OVER 68 YEARS OLD AND IN LOVELY CONDITION
LIFE OF DA VINCI, HIS YOUTH, THE LAST SUPPER, FLYING MACHINES, THE MEDICI, SCIENCE & ART, HIS NOTEBOOKS, & MORE
Leonardo da Vinci wrote confidently in his youth, "I wish to work miracles." By the time of his death in 1519, when he was sixty-seven and famed throughout Europe, it seemed that he had accomplished wonders aplenty as an artist, engineer, inventor, and scientist. The story of the Renaissance artist and scientist.
This is a stunning and very well-kept edition that includes a treasure trove of information on the life of one of the greatest artists ever to have lived.
Leonardo da Vinci was trained to be a painter and, in fact, produced what is arguable the most famous painting in the world, the "Mona Lisa". Yet Leonardo's interests and achievements spread far beyond the world of art. He studied astronomy, botany, anatomy, and geology, and designed and drew plans for hundreds of inventions, many of which fore-shadowed the achievements of men who lived four hundred years after Leonardo died.
Emily "Mickey" Hahn (January 14, 1905 – February 18, 1997) was an American journalist and writer. Considered an early feminist and called "a forgotten American literary treasure" by The New Yorker magazine, she was the author of 54 books and more than 200 articles and short stories. Her novels in the 20th century played a significant role in opening up Asia and Africa to the west. Her extensive travels throughout her life and her love of animals influenced much of her writing. She was the first woman to receive a degree in Mining Engineering at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. After living in Florence and London in the mid-1920s, she traveled to the Belgian Congo and hiked across Central Africa in the 1930s. In 1935 she traveled to Shanghai, where she taught English for three years and became involved with prominent figures, such as The Soong Sisters and the Chinese poet, Shao Xunmei.
