London: J. Whiston and B. White, 1760. First edition. Cracking to joints, but holding well, contents clean. First edition. Two volumes. Quarto. vi, (ii), 630p, (ii, errata, ad); (iv), 753p (i). Titles in red and black. Portrait frontispiece after Holbein, six plates of facsimiles in various hands, including a specimen in Erasmus' hand and of Budaeus, Durer and others. Bound in contemporary speckled calf with marbled endpapers and rebacked to style with red titles labels, the panels densely gilt. With two bookplates, one of Hon. Sir George Howard L.L.D.(1718-1706), Field Marshall and politician, and subsequently Governor of Minorca.
