About This Item
London:: Collins Crime Club,, (1983) . Hardcover first edition -. Very good in very good dust jacket (toning to the pages, some edgwear and creasing to the dj) . First printing. A satirical look at Britain's public school tradition (although the school in question is a very unimportant one) and of the parents who send their children to such places, as well as a very funny mystery. When Mr. Crumwallis, the obtuse and penny-pinching headmaster at Burleigh School, selects Hilary Frome to be head boy the following year, disruptive pranks soon become life-threatening. However, Barnard balances his satire with sympathy for those who genuinely care about teaching even in such a poorly run school - and the final sentence is a classic. Published in the US under the title of 'School for Murder.' 201 pp.
