About This Item
William Hutchinson of Cohasset Stage, 1946. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/Good. Illustrated by Harold Bugbee. Designed and printed at the Pass of the Rio Bravo by Carl Hertzog. Cloth, dust jacket chipped and worn, book very good plus. Western writer L. M. Rice's copy with his signature. First edition. Six Score 89: "An excellent collection of stories by the beloved range country writer. Besides the design by Hertzog and the Bugbee illustrations, the book contains 'My Salute to Gene Rhodes,' by J. Frank Dobie. 1,000 copies were printed." Dobie/Dykes 87: "The edition consisted of 1,000 copies which have been going at a premium in the trade for many years. The book contains five great short stories tied together by a cowman, aforesaid Bates, one of Rhodes' most vivid fictional characters. There are even some cows in these stories and if they seem a mite shadowy, the drouth [sic] described in one of the stories is very real. It also contains all of the Rhodes poems Hutchinson could find, plus a Rhodes bibliography." Lowman 43.
