Finely bound by Cedric Chivers of bath in early twentieth century binding of full plum morocco. Spine with raised bands, the compartments ruled, decorated and lettered in gilt. Decorative line and floral design to both boards. Board edges double ruled in gilt. Mottled coloured endpapers. Turn ins with double ruled lines and floral design. Top edge gilt, others untrimmed. Two previous owner bookplates on the front paste down endpaper. A little fading to the spine but overall a very near fine copy.

Half title, Title page, 415pp. One of 500 copies printed, using the fine Baskerville Greek type. A clean and crisp copy in a very good contemporary leather binding of full diced dark brown calf boards, with floral gilt roll borders. Professionally re-spined at a later date with a matching coloured Morocco spine, ruled, decorated and lettered in gilt. Board edges ruled in gilt. Marbled endpapers. Gilt inner dentelles. All edges marbled. A small patch of rubbing to the front free endpaper and some rubbing and bumping to the edges but overall a very good copy of this beautifully printed book in an attractive 18th century binding.

Finely bound in late 19th/early 20th century arts and crafts style leather binding of full dark green Morocco. Spine with raised bands, each with three gilt dots. The compartments rule, lettered, and fully decorated with floral devices, all in gilt. Both boards with matching triple ruled borders and decorative floral, dot and ruled line design. Board edges with single gilt ruled lines. Turn-ins decorated with triple ruled lines, dots and floral devices, all in gilt. Plain green endpapers. All edges gilt. A lovely copy of this 19th century poem in a fine, highly attractive, but sadly unsigned by the binder, leather binding. Lorne was a Liberal politician, son in law of Queen Victoria, through his marriage to Princess Louise, and in 1878 was appointed Governor General of Canada by Disraeli. The spine with raised bands, ruled in gilt. Compartments fully ruled, decorated and lettered in gilt. Elaborate Persian fan design to boards. Inner Dentelles fully decorated in gilt, surrounding red Moire silk centre pieces. Silk endpapers. All edges gilt. Previous owner's neat 4 line inscription, dated 1909, to front blank endpaper. The binding is a little rubbed to the extremities, ths spine faded to a uniform brown colour and the silk endpapers have some minor fraying to the edges but overall this is a highly decorative fine quality leather binding in very good condition.

Spine with decorative floral design in gilt and two curved-edged brown onlay labels, lettered and bordered in gilt. Front board with elaborate gilt floral design within a double ruled border. Brown onlay panel, lettered in gilt, and onlaid bow and several small leaves in green leather. Board edges with thick and thin gilt ruled cross lines. Turn ins decorated with gilt flowers to the outer corners. Marbled endpapers. Top edge gilt, the others untrimmed. The first English edition, published the same year as the original Brussels edition. The binding is not signed but is certainly the work of a master bookbinder. A beautiful and skilfully executed binding.
