New York: J.T. Lloyd, 1862. Civil War Map. 1 folding map. 76 x 120 cm (31.5 x 51 inches); hand colored. [1862], c.1861 (Differs from other 1862 edition in including a list of new maps to the right of the map title as well as "Deviation of the magnetic needle . . ." and "Memoranda" describing the sources and projection used to make the map, and lacking the warning to the right of the map title). "Book form for Army Officers with Linen Backs, cut for folding" into marble paper covered boards (folded dimension 8 x 5.25 inches). "The only map used to plan campaigns in Virginia by Gen. McClellan." Regarded has the most influential map of Virginia during the Civil War period. Relief shown by hachures. Includes geographical remarks, population, altitudes, steam boat routes, and memoranda. Provenance: held in private family collection for generations, acquired from the Alga Schloss Estate. Alga's husband's first wife was a Morley of the Cleveland Morley Family, and a descendent of General G.W. Morgan. Some strategic cities underlined in red ink, else map is clean with light expected wear.. Cloth. Very Good. Map.
