A clash of religious upbringing and true love, this novel follows Beth Brickman, a young Jewish girl as she balances her family's background and wishes with her desires in post WWII Rhode Island. Covers worn along edges, bit of damp staining to margin of first few pages, covers chipped, stained, and foxed.

The dustjacket shows over-all wear but still looks nice under it's protective plastic covering. The dustjacket is not price clipped. Stated first edition. Scarce title. 286 pages.

The jacket is separated near the front gutter, with the front panel and flap being one piece, and the rest of the jacket being a separate piece. Tape repairs evident on jacket, and flaps were taped to pastedowns. Two chips at top of front panel of jacket not affecting any lettering. The jacket spine is sunned, and "Lonely" is no longer visible; small label near bottom of jacket spine. $2.75 price is present on front flap. Inscribed by the author on the front endpaper and signed "Bea", then her full signature is below. Laid in is a 3x5 card, typed by the author, and signed in full. The jacket is now encased in a brodart. Although the condition of the jacket is subpar, a scarce book, especially signed.

Also a few tiny chips and tears at edges of jacket, but the white jacket is for the most part clean and fresh. $2.75 price is present on front flap. Inscribed by the author on the front endpaper.

v+321 pages. Small octavo (7 3/4" x 5 1/2") bound in original publisher's black cloth with gilt lettering to cover and spine. First British edition. St. Ives: Being The Adventures of a French Prisoner in England (1897) is an unfinished novel by Robert Louis Stevenson. It was completed in 1898 by Arthur Quiller-Couch. Unable to write, Stevenson dictated thirty chapters of the novel to his stepdaughter as a diversion from his debilitating illness. He alternated dictating St. Ives and The Weir of Hermiston but gradually lost interest in the former. The plot concerns the adventures of the dashing Capitaine Jacques St. Ives, a Napoleonic soldier, after his capture by the British.
