Synopsis

No Longer at Ease is a 1960 novel by Nigerian author Chinua Achebe. It is the story of an Igbo (also spelled Ibo) man, Obi Okonkwo, who leaves his village for a British education and a job in the Nigerian colonial civil service, but who struggles to adapt to a Western lifestyle and ends up taking a bribe. The novel is the sequel to Achebe's Things Fall Apart, which concerned the struggle of Obi Okonkwo's grandfather Okonkwo against the changes brought by the English.

Reviews

On Aug 22 2021, a reader said:
No longer at ease is a novel by Chinua Achebe published in the 1960 and it is a continuity of things fall apart. It revolves around Obi Okonkwo who is in between the western and African culture . The novel begins when he is before a court facing corruption charges and it tells us how in the start he was an honest person having studied in England and did English but at the end he fails. Obi's life is for of struggle the girl he wants to marry is an outcast and his mother refuses and vows to kill her self if they get married.

One of the great theme is theme of struggle or clush between cultures. Also corruption has been brought in the light through the pratagonist Obi Okonkwo. Theme of unity through umofia progressive Union which funded obi's education although he will pay back. Education has been highlighted through characters like Obi, Clara and many more also religion through Obi's father Isaac who shifts to Christianity.

This is an interesting novel to read as it highlights African problems.
