Empresa Editora Zig-Zag, Santiago de Chile, 1939. Hard Cover. 241 p.; 21 cm. French novelist and essayist, Bernanos is considered one of the most original Roman Catholic writers of his time. Unlike many contemporary French writers, Bernanos was an active supporter of the rightist Action Française movement and an ardent supporter of the French monarchy. In this work, first published in Paris, 1938 (the year in which he went into self-imposed exile in Brazil, where he spent seven years working unsuccessfully as a farmer), Bernanos denounces Franco's rebellion against the Spanish republic. Bound, with pictorial dj front & flap, in red boards, spine stamped in gold; pages darkened, red underlining at p. 240; good. Stock#38487.
