As a prominent religious figure, Thurman (1899-1981) played a leading role in many social justice movements and organizations of the 20th century. His theology of radical nonviolence influenced and shaped a generation of civil rights activists, and he was a key mentor to leaders within the movement, including Martin Luther King Jr. Small octavo: 113 p. Original mustard paper-covered boards over a charcoal cloth spine, with gilt stamping. The ink signature of Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Michael Parks appears on the front endpaper. A near fine copy in a near fine dust jacket with some light edgewear.
