The author, Abraham Gottschall or Godshalk, was the minister of the Doylestown (Pa.) Mennonite Church from 1824 to his death in 1838. In Very Good Condition: edges are rubbed; slight loss of leather at ends of spine; leather starting to separate along front joint from tail of spine; boards slightly soiled; occasional light foxing; some pages have darkened more than others; a solid copy of this scarce American Mennonite work.

The German theologian Caspar Schwenckfeld von Ossig (1489-1561) was one of the earliest promoters of the Protestant Reformation in Silesia. In his writings he opposed war, secret societies, the taking of oaths, infant baptism, and the establishment of denominations. Groups of his followers, known as Schwenkfelders, came to Pennsylvania in the 1730s, leading to the establishment of the Society of Schwenkfelders in 1782 and the Schwenkfelder Church in 1909. Hunting (1826-1894) of the First Unitarian Church in Davenport, Iowa, among many positions; he also served as chaplain of the 27th Reigment of Michigan Infantry during the Civil War, as president of the Iowa Prisoners' Aid Association, and as president of the Davenport Academy of Natural Sciences.
