About This Item

Greendale, WI: Reiman Publications, 1994. First edition. Hardcover (plasticized boards). Fine. 178p, many color photos. No jacket, as issued. In 1993-94 a 6-Belgian hitch sponsored by Reiman Publications crossed the United States to honor senior citizens by visiting nursing homes and giving rides--3800 miles, 10 miles a day. Here is a "day-by-day account of [the] cross-country trek from Maine to California, right from the horse's mouth, with added commentary by driver David Helmuth, publisher Roy Reiman and a few other selected humans." Firestone was a multiple champion Belgian in the hitch. Lots of human interest about the places and people visited, behind-the-scenes preparation and vignettes, etc. Great for the armchair traveler.
