Antoine Legendre's 'Maniere de Cultiver les Arbres Fruitiers' is a rare, mid-17th-century botanical treatise written to instruct on the proper way to cultivate fruit trees. Legendre, a priest of Hannonsville, France was responsible for creating new methods of planting apple orchards. Martha Stewart, renowned chef and cookbook author, credit's Legendre with his 'espalier growing' method.
