Description:
"The Snow Baby: A True Story with True Pictures" by Josephine Peary. Published in 1901. First Edition Thus! NO later printings/editions stated. RARE BOOK! Lots of B&W Photographs!
"The Snow Baby is the name that the Esquimaux gave to little Miss Peary, and Mrs. Joseph D. Peary has written a delightful account of her little daughter who was born far in the north, and whose early months were spent near the North Pole. She explained the Esquimaux term for "The Snow Baby," which is "Aphoomikaninny," and gives an account of the strange huts of skin and wood in which they live, of the dogs and queer animals which were her playmates, of the brown-faced men and women and children, who gaped in wonder at the little white baby. She gives an interesting account of the long Arctic night which lasts for months, when the sun never rises. That little Miss Peary was a pet of the White Man's expedition is not to be wondered at. There are many photographs of the Arctic life which illustrate this remarkable book."

Description:
Providence: Sidney S. Rider, 1863. In fragile condition. An 1863 reprint of the 1652 book. Originally printed in London, February 1652. Complete Title is: "Experiments of Spiritual Life & Health and their Preservatives in which the weakest child of God may get assurance of his spiritual life and blessednesse and the strongest may find proportionable discoveries of his Christian growth and the means of it. By Roger Williams of Providence in New England." The title page is a reproduction from 1652. This 1863 reproduction is faithful to the original with the typeface of the period substituting the letter "F" for "S" and using what is now less conventional spelling. This was a limited edition reprinting of 500 copies. Roger Williams (1603-1683) was a religious reformer, maverick, and perhaps the first supporter of Native American rights. He is also credited as being the first in the American colonies to attempt to prohibit slavery. Williams was one of the… Read More

Hartford, CT: Church Missions Publishing Company, 1925. First edition. Hardcover. Very Good. 6 1/2 x 10 inches. 42 + 53 + 15 + 39 + [1] + 52. A collection of biographies of notable Episcopal Bishops in the Soldier and Servant Series. With several illustrations and many pages unopened. Bound in publisher's grey paper over cardstock with printed title and other information on front cover. From the Hart Family library (and with an advert for a biography of Hart by one of the authors). Cover and page edges lightly soiled and sooted (apparently from the fire that destroyed much of the Hart library). From the library of Samuel Hart, which experienced a fire that damaged a number of books. As a result, items from Hart's library are extremely rare. Samuel Hart (1845-1917) was dean of the Berkeley Divinity School, the (un)official "middle way" seminary of the Episcopal Church at Middletown, Connecticut. In 1886, he became the third custodian of the Standard Book of Common Prayer. In 1892,… Read More
