About This Item

George Routledge and Sons, nd [1890s] 1890. Hardcover. VG. CRUIKSHANK, George. Yellowback. 12.5 x 19 cm pictorial paper covered boards with illustration and titles to the front and spine and an advert for John Brinsmead and Sons to the rear. Endpapers advertising publisher's works to the front and 'The Select Library of Fiction' to the rear ix[i] 256 pp with portrait frontispiece and 10 black and white illustrations by George Cruikshank. Well preserved boards with a little dust marking to the rear. There is a little rubbing to the spine tips and joints with some loss of paper and a little chipping to the foot of the spine extending up to 0.5cm. The corners are a little rounded. The binding remains firm. Internally there is a previous owners name to the half title page and two small tape marks on the front free endpaper that are echoed on the rear. There is some toning to the free endpapers and very light occasional spotting. The book is now protected by a removable, clear, rigid plastic cover [not shown]. This type of 'Yellowback' book was produced cheaply to supply increased demand for books created by improved education and the expansion of rail travel in the second half of the Nineteenth Century. Difficult to find in such complete condition. Rainford & Parris Books welcomes enquiries, so please do not hesitate to ask if you require further images or have any questions. All books are packaged with great care.
