About This Item
The history of Mexico told from the perspective of common folks down through the ages. The author was a Choctaw from Oklahoma and he identified with the indigenous people when he went down there to live. Told not just from the standpoint of historical events, but with the perspective of native myths and legends. The book is inscribed to Col. Harry C. Stewart of Dallas, Texas. Col. Stewart was a farm and ranch supply distributor. Col. Stewart's son, Peter Stewart, grew the business into the largest ranch supply distributorship in America. Peter Stewart also was a big philanthropist and created Thanksgiving Square in downtown Dallas. In addition, he commissioned a 60' mosaic mural on the side of his office building in 1954, by famed Mexican artist, Miguel Covarrubias. He donated that mural to the Dallas Museum of Art, and it was installed at the entrance to the Museum. I obtained this book from the estate of Peter Stewart. The book is in near fine condition with slight even toning to the light tan cover. The dust jacket is all in one piece, but it is chipped all around and there are tears and some paper loss at the top and bottom of the spine. The author has inscribed (in Spanish), dated and signed on the front free flyleaf.
