Paris: Chez Verdiére. Libraire, Quai des Augustins, 1822. First Edition. Leather Backed Boards. Good/No Dust Jacket. Beudant (1787 - 1850), educated at École Polytechnic in Paris, was a member of the French government sponsored expolratory expedition to the Balkans in 1818. This volume is volume one of four based on his observations during this exploration of the Austro-Hungariam Empire. It is the earliest geological survey of the Balkans. The area explored included present day Hungary, and parts of Yuoslavia, Serbia, Bosnia, Croatia, Austria, Romania, Slovakia, and Russia. The maps are considered among the first geological maps of the European continent. this volume has leather spine over marbled boards, 560 pages plus a 42 page "Table Alphabétique Générale" and a 2 page "Fautes Essentialles a Corriger" covering all four volumes. The spine leather has cellugel arrested red rot. edges of spine are rubbed with closed tears head & foot, some loss of material @ both extremities, lower spine significantly rubbed, marbled end papers and page block edges, front hinge cracked, former owner's private library stamp on first page. Very light scattered foxing, pages all are slightly wrinkled from age. All-in-all despite flaws a very attractive specimen of this scarce classic volume of geological exploration in eastern Europe. - Since 1997 delivering quality books to our neighbors, all around the world!

One for National Geographic (MARTIAN MEGA ROVER, aired August 2012) ) and one for The Discovery Channel (RED PLANET ROVER, aired December 2014). While MDTV was gathering primary source material at Caltech's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), a poster project was commissioned by Project Scientist John Grotzinger of Caltech/JPL at the suggestion of JPL engineer Adam Steltzner. Steltzner envisioned the posters as motivational posters to be displayed in the areas where the rovers were being built, much like WWII war effort posters. 1898 1ed Clara Barton Red Cross Nursing Civil War Medicine Texas Illustrated

"You must never so much think as whether you like it or not, whether it is bearable or not; you must never think of anything except the need, and how to meet it."
– Clara Barton

Clara Barton spent much of her life helping people. She taught and helped care for soldiers on the battlefield during the Civil War, earning the name "Angel of the Battlefield." After going to Europe and learning about an organization there called the Red Cross, she decided to start one in America. As founder of the American Red Cross, which helps victims of natural disasters as well as war, Clara Barton sealed her place in history.

This 1898 first edition of "The Red Cross" catalogues the history of the American Red Cross and is thoroughly expanded from the 1883 edition. It contains new information not in previous iterations and examines relief work in the Civil War, Texas famines, Michigan forest fires, the Spanish-American War, and many… Read More
