About This Item

N.Y.: Dodd Mead & Company, 1963. First American Edition, September 1963, so stated. Publisher's yellow paper over boards with black titles to spine. Previous owner's inscription at front end-paper. Very lightly soiled else near fine in rubbed dust jacket with one closed tear, price clipped. Jacket with rubbing to folds, spine panel faded with wear to ends. A very nice, tight copy. MISS MARPLE., set in the sleepy village of St. Mary Mead. One minute, silly Heather Babcock had been babbling on at her movie idol, the glamorous Marina Gregg. The next, Heather suffered a massive seizure, poisoned by a deadly cocktail. It seems likely that the cocktail was intended for the beautiful actress. But while the police fumble to find clues, Miss Marple begins to ask her own questions, because as she knows-- even the most peaceful village can hide dark secrets. Basis for the 1980 film directed by Guy Hamilton with an all-star cast. Angela Lansbury fittingly is cast as Miss Marple with Elizabeth Taylor, Rock Hudson, Tony Curtis, Edward Fox, Kim Novak, and in a very early uncredited role, Pierce Brosnan. . First Edition. Hard Cover. Near Fine/Near Fine. Book.

Synopsis

E-book exclusive extras:1) Christie biographer Charles Osborne's essay on The Mirror Crack'd from Side to Side;2) "The Marples": the complete guide to all the cases of crime literature's foremost female detective. The quaint village of St Mary Mead has been glamourized by the presence of screen queen Marina Gregg, who has taken up residence in preparation for her comeback. But when a local fan is poisoned, Marina finds herself starring in a real-life mystery—supported with scene-stealing aplomb by Jane Marple, who suspects that the lethal cocktail was intended for someone else. But who? If it was meant for Marina, then why? And before the final fade-out, who else from St Mary Mead’s cast of seemingly innocent characters is going to be eliminated?
