Book is tight, square, and unmarked but for a F/O address label on the half title page and the front pastedown. Brown cloth boards and spine with bright black lettering on the spine and front board. Maps as endpapers. 172 pp 8vo. This is the story of the heroism of Margaret Utinsky, who in 1942-45, against unbelievable and fantastic odds, for three years led an underground organization in the Philippines in a relentless and telling effort to aid American prisoners of war held by the Japanese. She posed as a Lithuanian nurse in the Philippines and led an underground movement to smuggle medication, food, and other supplies to American POWs. She was imprisoned and tortured, but after being released, resumed her activities. She was recognized in 1946 with the Medal of Freedom by President Truman for her actions. A clean very presentable copy.
