This is an interesting scrapbook from the 1930's loaded with real "murder and mayhem" news stories. The scrapbook contains 131 pages of newspaper clippings from "The Sunbury Daily" (Sunbury, PA) - the clippings range in date from 1931 to 1937.
There are some clippings related to local sports news, but the vast majority of the articles are related to real crime and tragedy stories - here are examples: Lindbergh baby kidnapping, moonshiners, forest fires, chicken thieves, auto accidents, bomb packages, stabbings, shootings, robberies, election fraud, arson, plane crashes, people freezing, falling trees, hangings, mysterious graves, bank heists, larceny, suicide, hit-and-run, murder, floods, beatings, forgery, amputation, incest, abduction, drowning, dam bursts, illegal liquor production, lightning strikes, accidental shootings...and more.
The scrapbook had originally been used by a notary public in the 1870's. There are 21 original pages at the back with no newspaper clippings affixed. The scrapbook measures 14" tall x 8 1/2" wide x 1 1/4" thick.
Condition:
Worn corners; some rubbing to the marbled paper over the boards; chipping to the top and bottom edges of the spine. Tight binding with no loose pages.
