Slight sunning and browning to spine; slight rubbing and browning to covers (cloth; chiefly at edges); slight bumping to corners; previous owner's pencil signature and inscription on front free endpaper; previous bookseller's printed paper label on rear attached endpaper; slight internal browning to edges and endpapers. 376 pages + plates. Later UK hardcover issue; coverage of the legendary dancer's life to 1921, with the publisher's note (following title page). Originally published in the US in 1927; 'Fourth impression September 1928' (title page verso); printed in Great Britain by The Camelot Press. Provenance: From the library of noted photographer Paul Outerbridge, Jr., with his holograph pencil signature (in full) and inscription ('Palmetto Grove', in parentheses) on front free endpaper.24 b/w Photographs / Plates (including Frontispiece portrait).
