This is an original First Edition of the title, published by the author in 1854. It has a Frontispiece of an engraving of the author. The book is in Fair condition with gilt page edges and gilt to the title on the spine and to the image on the front of Dr. Roback's Summer Residence in Sweden. The black cloth covered boards are faded and have significant age and wear to the spine. There is chipping to the edges and the board under the cloth cover is exposed at the spine and corners. The pages are still intact. The binding is loose, but holding. The pages have moderate toning from age but the text and numerous illustrations are still very legible. Moderate toning to the inside covers. There is occasional minor soiling to some pages, but most are clear, yet toned. 236pp. The book measures 9.5" tall by 6" wide and 1" thick.
