London: Macmillan & Co., 1953. Hardcover. Very Good/Good +. The interior of the book is clean and fresh, with just a few signs of previous use. The red cloth cover is also in very good condition, with light rubs at edges and corners. The gilt spine lettering is still bright. The dust jacket is also in Good + condition The bottom corner of the front flap is clipped and there is noticeable wear to the spine, which has darkened. There is paper missing at the top edge, as well as a split along the fold. The attached scan gives a clearer idea of condition. The jacket is now in a protective mylar cover. Synopsis: "Coming back to England after her husband's death", Til was tired and disoriented by her long and unhappy marriage. Louis had always blamed his family for his failure and unhappiness, but when Til went to meet them in the small county town where they lived, she found reality was different. She becomes involved in a complex situation unfolding at the private school where Louis's elder brother Hilary teaches, and becomes closer and closer to him. Til and Hilary find "a new beginning once they have come through this difficult narrow place.
