With large folding map of Ireland. Hardcover bound in contemporary or early 3/4 leather with marbled paper-covered boards. The binding shows heavy wear. The front board is detached; the rear board is holding by the cords. The leather on the front and rear boards is chipped away at the hinges and the binding generally appears worn and heavily rubbed. The leather on the spine is a bit darkened, suggesting it having been damped, and also has a couple of chips missing. Dual black leather labels on the spine. Likely an ex-library copy; a bookplate has been removed from the front pastedown. The paper of the text shows some waviness, also suggesting having been damped, although there are no tide-marks in the paper. Text is untrimmed. Famed full-color frontispiece is intact, as is tipped-in protective tissue. All eighteen B&W engravings (nine plates) are intact.Spine is discolored and darker than rest of jacket, with obvious water damage that shows through the endpapers. Fraying on top spine and front jacket. Small writing on front endpaper. Pages are age tanned and have small stains.
