EDINBURGH: W H LIZARS, 1836 A very good copy of the 1st edition in the original publisher's cloth binding with 31 hand coloured plates. This volume forms the second part of Jardine's 2 part work on Ruminants; part of the Naturalist's Library (Mammalia, volume IV). With listing of current titles; half title; engraved frontispiece portrait of John Hunter; vignette title page showing an American Bison; 2 further title pages; advertisement; contents; Memoir of John Hunter; appendix; text including numerous engravings and 31 hand coloured plates. Advertisement for Jardine's Illustrations of Ornithology and publisher's catalogue at the rear.The plates include breeds of cattle and sheep. The binding has some fading to the spine which extends on to the front board and the corners are bumped. The top and bottom of the spine are slightly pulled. The original green endpapers are present: the top tip of the fep is missing. Some text is unopened. Contents in very good clean condition.
