New York: The John Day Company, 1948. Second Printing. Near Fine/Very Good. Second printing. Signed by Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India following the country's 1947 independence ending the British Raj. Bound in publisher's black cloth lettered in green. Near Fine with light wear to covers, light foxing to textblock edge. In a Very Good unclipped dust jacket with sunning to spine and edge of front cover, soiling, a short tear with associated creases to the bottom of the front panel and several small tape mends made to the blindside including one to a small nick on the spine panel.
Nehru was one of Gandhi's lieutenants and named by him as his "chosen heir"; the two men where perhaps the most central figures in Indian history in the 20th century.
