Maps by cartographer Thomas Kitchin, about whom Wikipedia says, "He produced 170 maps for London Magazine (174783)... Kitchin frequently stole the works of other cartographers, which is one reason why he "created" so much work as a cartographer." This set complete with 47 maps and cuts as called for in "List of Plates." Vol. I concentrates on Columbus and early Spanish voyages; Vol. II, the Americas and Indians; Vol III, the Pacific; Vol IV, Europe; Vol V, Europe; Vol VI, Greece, Africa, and the Orient; Vol. VII, British Isles. See Sabin 38163: "A capital Compendium. Contains well-digested narratives of the voyages and discoveries of Columbus, Ulloa, Dampier, Kolben, Rogers, Drake, Pocock, Nieuhof, etc." Front board of Vol. I detached but present. Spine label for Vol. IV lacking. Otherwise a very good set in contemporary bindings, pages evenly tanned, maps and plates in very good condition. This set usually turns up incomplete, with individual volumes or maps offered for sale. Surprisingly scarce when complete, as this set is.. Seven volumes, 21 cm.
