About This Item
Wellington, c. 1940. Lithographed folding map, 100 x 75.5 cm, printed in colours, dissected into 9 panels and laid on linen, eylets mounted in upper margin, marginal pin-holes, a few minor spots and stains including a lightened area of sea on the right hand side where a pencil note has been partially erased. A schoolroom map of New Zealand with pie charts showing principal imports and exports and local produce - wheat, sheep, cheese, fruit etc - represented pictorially. According to Archives New Zealand, Arthur Joseph Davis trading as the 'New Zealand Map Company' submitted this map for copyright under the title: 'Products and Industries of New Zealand; an example with this title is held by the University of California (OCLC 890146019). Our examples differs slightly: products and industries has been dropped from the title, and Philip & Tacey Ltd has been added to the imprint as sole agents for the British Isles, suggesting that our example was published for use in the UK.
