[1936 GEORGE ABBOTT DIRECTOR-PRODUCER ORIGINAL CONTRACT WITH PLAYWRIGHT] GEORGE ABBOTT CONTRACT WITH PLAYWRIGHT JULIAN THOMPSON, July 13, 1936, Dramatic Production Contract Between [with blank spaces filled in] The Nightingale Theatrical Corporation and Julian Thompson For the Production of 'The Nightingale', Dated July 13, 1936", booklet published by The Dramatists Guild of The Authors' League of America, Inc., 1936, 8" x 10-1/2", first 6 pages contract with blank spaces for royalties, advance, etc., filled in in black ink, followed by 34-page Text of Basic Agreement of 30 Articles going into details on aspects of the contract in legal language, on page 6 signatures of George Abbott and Julian Thompson bold in black ink, signatures of each are also on the accompanying 2-page legal-size Dramatists' Guild Collaboration Contract which is basically a condensation of the agreement and terms of the 40-page booklet, with a half-page/8-1/2" x 7-1/4" typed note dated May 26, 1938, from the Sidney F. Fleisher law firm to Julian Thompson noting the enclosure of the "executed copy of the production contract dated April 19, 1938, between yourself and Mr. Girvin G. Higginson for 'The Nightingale'."; RARE, signatures authenticated by seller with lifetime guarantee ///// NOTES: GEORGE ABBOTT, 1887-1995, American theatre producer, director, playwright, screenwriter, film director and producer whose career spanned eight decades (wikipedia)…Nightingale Theatrical Corporation was presumably the ad hoc company formed by Abbott for production of Julians Thompson's play "The Nightingale"…a bibliographic annotation at the archives of the George A. Smathers Libraries at the U. of Florida for the play is "Nightingale, The (By J.F. Thompson) : Book by Julian F. Thompson (Adapted from the Fable of Hans Christian Anderson). Produced by The Amateur Comedy Club (NYC - No date) starring Theodore E. Steinway, Harold W. Gould, Paul Hyde Bonner, Helen Jenkins, etc.; JULIAN F. THOMPSON, d. 1936, also wrote the play Warrior's Husband, The : "A New Comedy" by Julian Thompson. Produced by Harry Moss at the Morosco Theatre (NYC - 1932) starring Katherine Hepburn (George A. Smathers Libraries archives at the U. of Florida)…in TIME Magazine's Milestone's column for May 1, 1939, there is a brief obituary note, "Died. Julian F. Thompson, 50, playwright (The Warrior's Husband) and treasurer of McKesson & Robbins, who started the investigation that exposed President Coster as ex-Convict Musica; of influenza; in Manhattan."; CONDITION: well preserved, negligible wear.
