2 volumes de 21,5x13,5 cm. Com xi, [i], 766; [iv], 680, [iv], 681-1038 págs. Encadernações inteiras de pele cansada, com rótulos e ferros a ouro na lombada. Apresentam folhas de guarda decorativas e o corte das folhas marmoriado. Incluem fitas marcadoras de seda verde, encontrando-se a a do 2.º volume solta. Obra impressa sobre papel avergoado.
Exemplares apresentam leves manchas de humidade em algumas folhas. O do 1.º volume contém uma etiqueta colada no verso da pasta anterior, constando desta: «Em casa de Agostinho de Freitas Guimarães & C.ª, mercadores de livros, Rio de Janeiro».
A obra contempla 7 'livros' abordando cada um os seguintes temas: Livre premier - Des maladies qui peuvent affecter toutes les parties du corps, et des opérations qui leur conviennent. Livre deuxième - Maladies de l"appareil de la digestion, et opérations qu"elles réclament. Livre troisième - Maladies de l"appareil génito-urinaire, et opérations qu"elles réclament. Livre quatrième - Maladies de l"appareil respiratoire, et opérations qu"elles réclament. Livre cinquième - Maladies de l"appareil de la circulation, et opérations qu"elles réclament. Livre sixième - Maladies de l"appareil sensitif, et des opérations qu"elles réclament. Livre septième - Maladies de l"appareil de la locomotion.
O 2.º volume divide-se em duas partes, sendo a primeira das páginas 1 a 680 e a segunda das páginas 681 a 1038. Cada parte contém a sua própria folha de rosto e anterrosto.
Consta ainda das folhas de rosto a seguinte informação sobre o autor: «Chirurgien principal; Chirurgien en chef, premier Professeur à l"Hôpital militaire d"Instruction de Strasbourg; Professeur de Clinique chirurgicale et de Médicine opératoire à la Faculté de Médicine de la même ville; Chevalier de la Légion-d"Honneur, Membre de l"Académie royale de Médicine de Paris, de la Société médicale d"émulation, et de plusieurs autres sociétés savantes, nationales et étrangères».

Founded in 1957, by Ezequiel Castro e Silva, LIVRARIA CASTRO E SILVA is a bibliographic commercial organization, well known in the antique book market and amongst the antiquarian booksellers, both in Portugal and abroad, for being one of the most distinguished Portuguese specialists in its area, dealing in books through several continents. We seek to maintain a family tradition that goes back to the second decade of the last century. Our main activity is the edition and periodic publication of bibliographic catalogues.

This webpage has a bibliographical database which seeks to replace the old file system, in itself an historical and probably unique tool, while allowing us the means to spread information about our books and contributing to the general bibliographical research.
