Dustjacket has light shelf wear, light abrasion, else Near Fine. Protected with Mylar cover. Free of cracks and tears to binding, bookplates, stickers, and page tears. Kept in temperature-controlled room; free of smelly humidity stains and the smell of a former smoker. This is a wonderful book about the memoirs of Irene Hardy, who was born on July 22, 1841 in Eaton, OH. She was a pioneering schoolmistress, a poet, a Stanford University professor, and a pathfinder for establishing standards for composition and teaching literature. Hardy recounts her childhood in the woods and field, the interrelationships of a farm community, how things were then (good and bad). She tells us much about a way of life that had vanished. You'll learn about small town life in the years before the Civil War, public education in America, and her exciting career - a professional woman of her time. Fascinating, historical. Note: We are a well-established, well-respected, ethical book dealer in business since 1991. We describe the condition of our books thoroughly and honestly, so you'll know exactly what you will be receiving when you order. We ship promptly.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Near Fine.
