About This Item

Trustees of the British Museum, London, first edition, 1957. Printed wrappers, 8vo, 22 cm,. 11 pp, 12 pp of plates. From the preface : "This booklet is published on the occasion of the Royal Exhibition, 1957, celebrating the bicentenary of the gift of the Old Royal Library to the Nation by King George III. The plates are intended to illustrate typical specimens of the principal classes of books which contributed to the formation of the collection, but they are, of course, only a small selection of the books included in the Exhibition, and cannot provide a full picture of the riches of the Library. The text has been written by Mr. T. J. Brown, Assistant Keeper in the Department of Manuscripts, with the collaboration of Mrs. Margaret Scheele, Assistant Keeper in the Department of Printed Books. Good.
